“The biggest cliche in photography is sunrise and sunset” Catherine Opie – American Photographer
If you’re happy to sit within this cliche, as we are, then why not get in touch about family portraits during the ‘Golden Hour‘.
Here on the south coast of Devon we often get some stunning sunsets. From deep purples and pink stretching up from Dartmoor, the light picked up by swathes of high cirrus clouds giving an alien-like texture to the entire sky, to the glowing orange haze that despite being a cold evening in March, gives a sense of warmth. With good timing and a willing four year old we were able to capture some great shots on the ‘Secret Beach’ as we walked our dog. Some we shot from the point beach at Teignmouth, just as a serious stone throwing contest was raging between father and son, and some brave rowers battled the tide in the bracing wind pushing up the river.
We love to shoot in amazing natural light, but that’s sometimes hard to plan for, especially if you add children to the situation. You have to be ready at short notice and be able to get to a great location whilst trying to a four year old enthused. Sometimes you can get lucky and everything just falls into place.
